To all UHS Parents and Students: Duchesne County School District has been notified of a single case of Pertussis identified at Union High School. Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory infection. It's spread through coughing and sneezing. It is contagious from the beginning of symptoms and up to at least 2 weeks after coughing begins. It is treated with antibiotics. The school will send out a separate notification to families whose child we reasonably believe was in close proximity during the contagious window. If you have any questions or concerns, we recommend contacting TriCounty Health or your family physician. TriCounty Health #435-247-1197 Pertussis SymptomsEarly symptoms often appear like a common cold and can last for 1 to 2 weeks, these symptoms may include: Low-grade fever (less than 100.4°F) Runny nose/ Nasal congestion Red, watery eyesCough Later symptoms include coughing fits that can cause people to:Make a high-pitched "whoop" when they inhale after a coughing fit Vomit during or after coughing fits Feel very tired after the fit, but usually seem well in-between fits Have difficulty sleeping at night Struggle to breathe
